Post-doctoral
fellow, Macklis laboratory
I started
in the laboratory in July 2004 after a 6-year hiatus from bench
science; during this time I finished medical school and residency
training. My graduate work was in transcriptional regulation of
apoptosis in early B cell lineages by NF-kappaB transcription
factor family and its modulation of bcl-2.
I am interested
in corticostriatal projection neurons (CStrPN) because its dysfunction
has been noted in multiple neurological conditions including Huntington's,
Parkinson's diseases and cerebral palsy. I am currently learning
micro-surgical techniques as well as studying the literature.
I have experiments underway to study the perinatal development
of CStrPN. I am also interested in following induced CStrPN development
in the adult using a biophysical method of neurogenesis developed
in our laboratory [Nature (2000) 405: 951-5].
